Highway 401's eastbound lanes reopened following a tractor-trailer explosion that caused day-long delays on Tuesday.

Westbound lanes reopened shortly after the trailer left the roadway and struck a steel crash barrier along the right shoulder of the eastbound lanes between Mavis Road and Hurontario Street at about 4:30 a.m.

The truck, carrying cereal products, immediately went up in flames and was completely destroyed by the fire.

The driver got out of the vehicle safely and was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Eastbound lanes remained closed until about 5 p.m.
