HAMPTON, Ont. - Durham regional police are calling the discovery of two dead women in a home in the village of Hampton, Ont., east of Toronto, "a self-contained incident."

Sgt. Nancy Van Rooy says police were called at 11:45 a.m. Thursday after someone arrived at the home and found the bodies with obvious signs of trauma.

She says both victims were pronounced dead at the scene but it hasn't been determined if it's a murder-suicide or a double suicide.

Homicide detectives are not looking for suspects and there is no concern for public safety.

The names and ages of the victims have not been released.

Van Rooy says autopsies are scheduled for Monday.

Tyrone Sluymers, a resident of the village of 400, said he was told by police a gun was involved but Van Rooy wouldn't say if a weapon has been recovered.

She says police have canvassed the area and spoken to neighbours.

Sluymers said he believed the house was rented and that a couple in their 50s lived there.
