TORONTO - Rush hour commuters on a Toronto rapid transit line were help up briefly on Friday morning -- by some ducks out for a stroll on the tracks.

Toronto Transit Commission spokesman Kevin Carrington says an operator spotted the ducks on the tracks on the Scarborough rapid transit line around 8 a.m.

The train travelling southbound between the Lawrence East and Kennedy stations stopped until the ducks left the tracks.

Carrington says service was held up for 10-15 minutes while a supervisor followed the ducks, which made their way into a bush near the ramp to the Kennedy station.

He says while commuters may have been inconvenienced, officials wanted to be sure the ducks were moved along safely.

Carrington says they wanted to ensure the safety of commuters and transit employees, as well as the ducks.

"We just wanted to make sure we did the right thing, find a safe way to relocate the birds and get service moving again," he said.
