A vehicle was impounded and a driver was charged after police clocked the car driving 174 km/h on a Toronto highway early Wednesday morning.

Toronto police said an officer on patrol caught the driver speeding in the westbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway near Highway 427, at approximately 6 a.m.

The driver, who was going almost double the 100 km/h speed limit, has been charged with stunt driving and his licence has been suspended for seven days.

The vehicle has also been impounded for seven days.
