A driver has been arrested after a highway chase and car crash that left an Ontario Provincial Police officer injured.

The pursuit started in the Burlington area of the eastbound QEW, when a suspect committed a violation of the Highway Traffic Act.

Instead of stopping, the driver fled, passing through Mississauga before crashing into an OPP vehicle near Cawthra Road.

Another civilian vehicle was also involved in the collision.

A female OPP officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. The civilian also sustained minor injuries.

The male suspect escaped on foot from the scene, but was later arrested at a nearby mall.

The eastbound lanes of the Queen Elizabeth Highway were closed at Cawthra and Hurontario for much of the day, but reopened around 4 p.m.
