Power was restored Wednesday after a large power outage left a portion of downtown core without electricity.

According to Hydro One officials, the power was cut off at 11:02 a.m. and affected the area from Yonge Street to Spadina Avenue and from Queen Street to Lake Ontario.

Hydro One spokesperson Al Manchee told CTV.ca the outage was caused by animal contact at the John Street transformer.

"A squirrel got in and contacted some live energized equipment triggering what we call an electrical fault so we lost two transformers," Manchee said.
