TORONTO - A jury has convicted a 72-year-old Toronto-area doctor of manslaughter for injecting his wife with a lethal mixture of anesthetics.

Jurors spent more than two days of deliberating before returning the verdict on Saturday against Joseph Roncaioli.

Police found his lifeless wife, 66-year-old Ibi Roncaioli, at their home in Vaughan on an evening of July 2003.

Roncaioli was arrested six months later.

The Crown argued Roncaiolo killed his wife of 30 years because she had frittered away their life savings and $5 million in lottery winnings.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for April 25.
