The parents of a young boy whose decomposing body was found in a suitcase have been found mentally fit to stand trial in the case.

The Toronto couple were arrested in Jamaica on Jan. 15 after police found the body of Jeshurun, their two-year-old son.

They are facing charges of failing to bury a body and concealing the death of the child after neighbours discovered the boy's partially mummified remains in the couple's home.

A pathology report into Jeshurun's death suggests he likely died from disease, asphyxiation or poisoning.

The document suggests it may prove difficult to determine the exact cause of death due to the body's advanced decomposition, which it describes in detail. However, a spokesman for the Jamaica Constabulary Force said in January that the report indicates the toddler wasn't murdered.

The couple moved to Jamaica in 2009 after being found guilty in the abandonment of their infant in Toronto in January 2008.

"Baby Angelica" was found in a cold stairwell of a plaza in the Leslie Street and Finch Avenue area. The temperature was about -14 Celsius when a passerby noticed her on the floor.
