TORONTO - RCMP officers have arrested a man in Toronto who's been declared a high-risk sex offender by authorities in the United Kingdom.

Sgt. Marc Laporte says Derrick Blackson, 45, was located and arrested without incident at a downtown hotel on Friday, hours after information was provided to Canadian authorities by Interpol.

Laporte says Blackson, who had been in Canada for seven days, left England contrary to his parole conditions.

Blackson is facing charges of misrepresentation under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

He's in custody awaiting an immigration hearing.

Laporte says Blackson's first sex-related conviction was in 1982, and his most recent was in 2000, for which he'd just recently been paroled.
