Toronto police have released new images of the suspect in last week's murder of 21-year-old Nick Brown, who was found stabbed to death in an empty subway train.

The photographs offer a better view of the man as they show the man's face from the side view and are close-ups. The images taken from the Victoria Park subway station surveillance camera are still somewhat grainy.

Grainy images released last week showed a man walking away from a camera, while a frontal shot was distant and the man's face could not be made out.

The suspect's age or race isn't known, but he has black hair and was wearing dark pants, a dark jacket with stripes down each arm and was carrying a light-coloured backpack.

After police identified the victim to the public on Sunday, Brown's uncle appealed for the suspect to surrender.

Brown was described as "a caring young man who liked to help others."

The young victim was last seen in the Yonge and Wellesley area at about 5 p.m. on the day he was killed. He was returning to his Scarborough home from his job as a plumber's apprentice.

Police believe he was attacked on the train before it arrived at Victoria Park station early Friday morning. An autopsy revealed Brown died of a stab wound to the left thigh, although he suffered numerous other stab wounds.

Police would only say that the murder weapon was a sharp-edged object.

Investigators also believe Brown's attacker was hurt during the incident and may have visible wounds on his face and one hand.

A TTC worker discovered the body at Kennedy Station on the Bloor-Danforth line.
