Toronto police released the name and a photo of the city's latest murder victim during a news conference Sunday afternoon.

Nick (Nicky) Brown, 21, was the 18th person to be murdered in Toronto this year. Police are looking for a suspect in the case.

Early Friday morning a TTC worker discovered Brown's body in an empty subway car. Investigators believe the victim was attacked on the train before it arrived at Victoria Park station.

Brown was found when the train arrived at Kennedy station on the Bloor-Danforth line.

Investigators released grainy images of a suspect captured by a surveillance camera. They believe the suspect left the train at Victoria Park station, going towards 30 Denton Avenue following the incident.

Officers also said they believe Brown's attacker was hurt during the incident and may have visible wounds on his face and one hand.

"There's forensic evidence in the train, there's forensic evidence that was collected at Victoria Park subway station," Det. Wayne Fowler said.

"Which indicates to me (that) there was a struggle aboard that train and the suspect may have been injured himself."

Police appealed for witnesses who may have seen the suspect, but investigators were initially tight lipped about the victim.

During Sunday's news conference police also revealed autopsy results that said Brown died due to a stab wound on his left thigh. He also suffered numerous other stab wounds.

Police would only say that the murder weapon was a sharp-edged object.

Investigators also indicated that they will be reviewing about 100 surveillance videos in an attempt to discover where the victim and suspect entered the subway system.

Brown's uncle Giuseppe Pileggi called the death a "devastating loss," and appealed to the suspect to turn himself in to police.

"(He) was a caring young man who liked to help others," Pileggi said. "Unfortunately, his future in our family has been shattered by this occasion."

The young victim was last seen in the Yonge and Wellesley area at about 5 p.m. on the day he was killed. He was returning to his Scarborough home from his job as a plumber's apprentice.

Brown was also a student at Central Technical School. He had returned to school this year to finish studies for his high school diploma.

Pileggi said his nephew hoped to one day own a plumbing business.
