A Loblaws store near Danforth Avenue will reopen on Monday morning after a noxious chemical made several people sick over the weekend.

The store was shut down Saturday at about 6 p.m., and Hazmat crews were called in to deal with chemical fumes which caused vomiting and diarrhea.

In a statement released to media, Loblaws said seven staff and four customers were affected by the chemical.

It's believed the victims became seriously ill after ingesting the fumes. Those affected "are recovering," said a company statement.

A CTV staffer reported that the store, located on Broadview Avenue just south of Danforth Avenue, was completely evacuated and several emergency crews were onsite during the incident.

It isn't known what substance caused the evacuation.

However, Loblaws said that the Ministry of Labour, the fire department and an environmental company are all investigating.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Loblaws said that officials have now deemed the store safe.

"Testing at the store by an environmental company and the Fire Department has since shown no environmental issues, such as a chemical leak (existing) at the store," the company said.

"(W)e expect the store to reopen Monday morning for business as usual. We apologize to customers for the inconvenience this closure has caused."
