PICKERING, Ont. - Charges have been dropped against an employee of a Pickering, Ont., nursing home in connection with the death of an elderly resident.

The Ministry of the Attorney General confirms that the charges against personal support worker Diane Peck, 34, were withdrawn on July 27.

Peck was employed at the Community Nursing Home on Valley Farm Road in Pickering when she was charged in May with criminal negligence causing death and failure to provide the necessities of life.

A 91-year-old resident was taken to Ajax-Pickering Hospital and diagnosed with a fractured femur on March 23 and died on April 4 due to complications.

The Attorney General's office says the charges were withdrawn because there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.
