A Brampton man charged with first-degree murder will return to court on Thursday.

Helen Slichta, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene on Glen Erin Drive. Police say she died from blunt force trauma.

She was Peel's seventh homicide victim of 2009.

A 44-year-old Mississauga woman remains in a Toronto trauma centre with serious injuries.

A 25-year-old woman was treated at a local hospital and released.

Police arrested a male suspect later Saturday, after finding him near a ravine within one kilometre of the scene.

The suspect was taken to hospital, treated and placed under police guard.

Horace Weekes has since been charged with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

He appeared in a Brampton court on Tuesday and will return to court on Thursday.
