A violent domestic incident in Mississauga, Ont. early Saturday morning has left one woman dead and her daughter in hospital fighting for her life.

A suspect in the case is also in hospital with what police say are self-inflicted wounds. He is under police guard.

The deceased woman's 25-year-old granddaughter was also inside the home on Glen Erin Drive when the altercation took place. She suffered minor injuries and has since been released from hospital.

Police were called to the townhouse at 12:58 a.m. The eldest woman, 71-year-old Helen Slichta was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say she died from blunt force trauma.

Sources tell CTV Toronto that the suspect had been warned with a court order to stay away from an ex-girlfriend.

Horace Everton Weekes, a 59-year-old Brampton resident, was arrested by police near a ravine.

If he survives his injuries, police say they will charge him with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
