The bodies of a woman and child found in the trunk of an abandoned car northeast of Toronto were sent for autopsies in hopes of solving the mystery of their deaths.

Durham Regional Police said post-mortem tests may help them figure out how the pair died.

No names have been released and police are not seeking any suspects at this time.

The bodies were discovered Saturday morning in Sunderland, Ont., a small community about 100 kilometres northeast of Toronto.

A resident had called police after noticing a white, abandoned car in a farmer's field. When officers arrived, they found two bodies in the trunk.

Police said they are now trying to retrace the woman's steps leading up to her death.
