Three people have been taken to hospital and a dog is dead after a Chevy truck collided with a red Hyundai north of Toronto Sunday afternoon.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. near Jane Street and Davis Drive West in King, York Regional Police said. The cause of the crash was not clear, but it appeared that one vehicle slammed head-on into the side of the other.

Three people were taken to Southlake Hospital in Newmarket. One person from the Hyundai had serious injuries, while two other people involved in the collision were treated for minor injuries.

A dog from one of the cars was killed in the crash. Police said it appears the animal was ejected from one of the vehicles and was then struck.

Police said there are early indications one of the drivers may have run a stop sign. They are still investigating the cause of the collision. No charges have been laid.
