Detectives are probing the city's latest homicide after a young man was found dead in a west-end apartment building.

Early Sunday afternoon, police were called to 320 Dixon Road, where they found the victim in a fourth-floor stairwell.

Residents told CTV Toronto they heard loud noises, perhaps gunshots, around 4 a.m. Sunday. However, no one called 911 until 1:30 p.m.

The victim's identity has not yet been released, but police estimate he is between 17 and 20 years of age.

Toronto Police Insp. Ken Taylor would only tell reporters the body showed signs of "some trauma." However, EMS workers reported earlier that the victim had been shot in the head.

Investigators say they are trying to find out what was happening at the building between noon Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. They specifically want to speak to the person who placed the 911 call.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
