A transit driver is likely to be charged after a woman was fatally struck and pinned by a bus in Etobicoke Monday morning.

The woman was struck by a Brampton Transit bus in the area of Finch Avenue West and Humberline Drive shortly before 6 a.m., police said. It was raining heavily at the time of the incident -- a factor that investigators believe played a role in the collision.

“The fact that it was raining and … it was dark -- I don’t think any of those factors helped the situation at all,” Sgt. Orang Momeni told CTV Toronto.

Police said the woman was walking from the south to north side of Finch when she was hit.

Pratik Patel, who was working at a nearby gas station at the time of the incident, says she was wearing dark colour clothing at the time.

“The lady was wearing (a) black colour outfit. It was dark, too,” Patel said.

Emergency officials said they found the woman trapped under the bus without vital signs when they arrived. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman, who has not been identified, is believed to have been in her 30s.

The eastbound section of Finch at Humberline was closed for several hours for a police investigation, but reopened before noon.
