Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for several regions near Toronto.
In a statement released Wednesday, the agency said “very strong southwesterly winds with frequent gusts up to 90 km/h are expected to develop” by Thursday afternoon. Gusts of wind up to 100 km/h are possible near the shores of Lake Erie.
“These winds will be strong enough to cause some tree damage, with power outages also possible as a result,” the warning added.
The wind warning covers the following regions:
- Simcoe-Delhi-Norfolk
- Dunnville-Caledonia-Haldimand
- Niagara Falls-Welland-Sourtern Niagara Region
Environment has also issued a special weather statement for other areas where winds are expected to be strong, but not as severe.
The statement includes the following areas:
- Halton-Peel
- Waterloo-Wellington
- Elgin
- London-Middlesex
- Oxford-Brant
- City of Hamilton
- Huron-Perth
Toronto itself is not included in the wind warning, but strong winds of 60 km/h or more are expected to hit the city on Thursday.
