NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. -- Niagara Region police say a 44-year-man has been charged following the discovery of a large marijuana grow operation.

Police say a search warrant executed at a rural residence in Niagara Falls uncovered more than 1,000 plants with an estimated street value of just over $1 million.

Mark Pigeault is accused of producing and possessing marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and is also charged with theft of hydro.

He was released from custody pending a court appearance at a later date.

Niagara Region police say they also arrested a 30-year-old St. Catharines man after a search of a townhouse in the city Thursday yielded about $16,000 in suspected cocaine, a quantity of prescription pills and more than $15,000 in currency.

Willem Bosman was being held in custody pending a bail hearing today in St. Catharines.
