HAMILTON, Ont. -- A Brampton, Ont., man is facing five additional charges in connection with a dump truck collision on the Burlington Skyway bridge that left the Toronto-bound lanes closed for several days.

The incident happened on July 31 when a dump truck slammed into scaffolding on the busy bridge, bringing afternoon rush-hour traffic to a standstill.

Provincial police say the bridge structure sustained significant damage and three other vehicles -- a transport truck and two cars -- were damaged after the initial collision.

Sukhvinder Singh Rai, 34, who police say was driving the dump truck, was charged at the time with impaired driving and exceeding 80 milligrams of blood-alcohol content in a motor vehicle.

Police say Rai is now also charged with dangerous driving, mischief endangering life and three counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The accused was held in custody Wednesday for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Hamilton.

Police say the incident remains under investigation and they are urging anyone with information to contact the Burlington OPP detachment.
