Police are asking for witnesses to come forward after two teen boys died of injuries in a daylight shooting at a Toronto townhouse complex in the city's northwest end.

O'She Doyles Whyte, 16, and Kwame Duodu, 15, were shot at approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday, at a community housing complex near Jane Street and Grandravine Drive.

Whyte was pronounced dead at the scene, and Duodu was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Officers are now looking for three black males who were seen on bikes at the time of the shooting.

Police said the victims were not known to them and had no criminal records.

Det. Sgt. Terry Browne told CP24’s Jackie Crandles that, after an initial canvass of the area Friday night, officers will be re-canvassing the complex Saturday.

He said police are welcoming any information about the shooting, which occurred in a busy pedestrian thoroughfare.

"The appeal continues," he said, adding that residents can share any rumours or "whispers" with officers, if they did not see anything themselves.

"There's time, but we'd like to speak to people sooner than later, as it's fresh in their memory."

Browne said the victims had no history with police "whatsoever."

"They were just doing what every other 15-year-old and 16-year-old would be doing during their summer holidays. They had jobs … they were minding their own business," he said.

Five teens have been shot within the area this year, and four – including Whyte and Duodu--have been killed, CP24's Jackie Crandles reported Saturday.

Browne said officers would be looking into whether the shootings were in any way related.

Police first responded to calls about the shooting after witnesses reported hearing as many as five shots being fired.

Residents of the community who knew the victims said they were good kids.

Genesis Shaw-Ottey, a friend of Whyte, said he was an "amazing" person who always cared for others.

"There was not a day that went by that he didn’t text me or call me to make sure I was okay. He was always looking out for everyone else," he said.

Following the fatal shooting, the chair and president of Toronto Community Housing released a statement expressing anger at the violence.

"Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the two young men shot today, and with the entire community of Yorkwoods Village."

TCH said it is working with police as homicide detectives continue their investigation.
