Police are looking for two suspects after a man was shot while inside a busy restaurant at a Toronto mall Friday.

The man is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot while inside Joey Yorkdale restaurant, located at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, shortly after midnight on Saturday.

The victim was inside when shots were fired from outside, through the restaurant’s window, investigators told CP24.

Police are now searching for a silver Honda CR-V that was seen fleeing the scene. Investigators are also reviewing mall video surveillance footage.

Zajac told CP24 that at least one suspect opened fire after exiting a vehicle in the mall parking lot.

Police believe the victim, who is in his 20s, was the intended target of the attack and was a client of the restaurant. He was rushed to hospital after the shooting and is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds to the lower half of his body, Det. David Zajac said.

No suspects have been arrested.

Although the mall was closed at the time of the shooting, the restaurant was scheduled to stay open until 2 a.m.

The shopping centre opened Saturday for normal business hours, but the restaurant will remain closed while police continue their investigation, the mall said in a written statement.

The mall is asking anyone with any information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

“Like all Torontonians, we are concerned about gun violence and saddened when such incidents occur in our city,” Yorkdale mall said in a statement. “We are cooperating with police and want to thank Toronto Police Service and emergency services for their rapid response.”

The incident marks the second time in just a few weeks that a shooting has occurred at the popular mall.

In late March, Michael Nguyen, 23, was killed and another man was injured in a shooting at Yorkdale. Police believe the shooting is linked to gang violence. No arrests have been made in the case.

Anyone with information about Saturday’s shooting is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
