A special needs assistant at a west-end Toronto high school has been arrested on a number of charges, including sexual exploitation.

In a letter addressed to the parents and guardians of the students at Martingrove Collegiate Institute on Thursday, principal Ralph Nigro said the special needs assistant was arrested one day earlier.

"(He) was not at the school today and will remain at home, pending the outcome of this matter," he said.

The high school is located in the Martin Grove Road and Eglinton Avenue West area.

Niro added while criminal charges "does not constitute guilt," the school is taking these allegations seriously.

"As you know, the safety of our students is a top priority and we are committed to enforcing (Toronto District School Board) policies about the well-being of students."

The special needs assistant has been charged with sexual exploitation, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

Concerned parents and guardians are invited to attend a meeting on Nov. 3, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The school will be reviewing its procedures regarding these types of incidents, and answer questions.
