Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the City of Toronto and parts of the GTA, as a winter storm is expected to blanket the area with heavy snowfall.

The weather agency says that a storm developing over Colorado will roll into southern Ontario on Saturday night and stick around until Monday morning.

Parts of GTA -- including Pickering, Oshawa, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Burlington, Oakville, Halton Hills, Milton, Mississauga, Brampton and south Durham Region -- are expected to be affected by the storm.

Environment Canada anticipates somewhere between five and 15 cm of snow to fall in the area on Sunday.

The winter storm could make for difficult driving conditions. Winds are expected to pick up on Sunday evening, which could result in blowing snow and reduced visibility.
