Two men have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a Toronto man in Vaughan.

York Regional Police were called to the area of Highway 7 West, just west of Keele Street, at noon on Aug. 5, after workers in the area located a body.

The body showed signs of trauma, and police suspected foul play was involved. The body was examined by the coroner and identified as that of 38-year-old Fernando Anibal Acosta.

Following an investigation, police said that they believe he died four days before he was found. Officials said he was involved in a verbal confrontation with two men he didn't know outside of a motel in the area. The argument escalated, and police believe the men killed Acosta in the ditch where he was found.

On Wednesday, officers said 19-year-old Malcom Ellis and 20-year-old Tevon Squire have been charged in the case.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with more information is asked to contact officers at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
