York Regional Police have released a grainy image of a person they believe walked by Anibal Acosta moments before he was murdered in Vaughan in early August.

Police were called to Highway 7 West near Keele Street on Aug. 5 after workers found Acosta’s body in a ditch by the side of the road.

The 38-year-old was murdered on August 1, police said.

The surveillance image released on Thursday shows a man walking west on the south side of Highway 7 at approximately 7:20 a.m. the day of the murder.

Investigators say the witness, who has not been identified, may have walked past Acosta before he was murdered.

The witness is described as male, and was wearing dark pants, a light-coloured shirt and a dark backpack when the image was captured.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the witness to call 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7865 or email homicide@yrp.ca.
