A north-end apartment building watched its basement flood after a water main exploded early Monday morning.
Toronto Fire said they received word of the flooding in an apartment complex at 1577 Lawrence Ave., near Black Creek Drive, at about 4:20 a.m.
Crews arrived at the scene to find more that one metre of water flooding the basement and underground parking garage. They managed to shut off water to the building by 5:15 a.m.
Residents were forced to battle streams of water coursing down stairwells and partially-submerged cars ahead of their morning commute.
The flooding was caused by a ruptured water steam pipe, Toronto Fire said.
Water remains shut off to the street as crews work to fix the problem.
