Residents of a downtown condominium have been allowed to return after a gas leak forced them out of their homes Friday.

Toronto police evacuated a building close to the Distillery District shortly after 9 a.m. when construction work in the area caused a gas leak.

A four-inch gas line was struck in the Cherry Street and Mill Street area.

Police asked pedestrians to keep a distance from the leak as Enbridge employees attempted to seal the line.
