Pride Toronto is set to host a town hall meeting tonight and tomorrow night to gain ideas on how to make next year’s events “safe and inclusive.”

The meetings come after some controversy at this year’s parade when Black Lives Matter-Toronto protesters staged a 30-minute sit-in and made certain demands about police involvement in Pride festivities.

One of the demands included a request to ban police floats and booths from all future parades.

Former executive director of Pride Toronto Mathieu Chantelois signed the list, but later said he only did so to get the parade moving and that it was not for him to decide whether or not a ban should be implemented.

Chantelois, who was criticized for his handling of the situation, announced his resignation on Aug. 10.

The meetings are open to “all interested community members to share comments,” on Toronto’s first Pride Month, according to a news release.

Both meetings are expected to start at 6:30 p.m. at Ada Slaight Hall in the Daniels Spectrum, located at 585 Dundas Street East.
