After 84 years, the popular Hadassah-WIZO Bazaar, a fundraiser for disadvantaged women in Canada and Israel, will take place for the last time in Toronto this October.

The sale is organized by the Canadian Hadassah-WIZO, a women's volunteer organization, which raises money to help fund health, social welfare and education programs in both countries.

The organization was founded in 1917.

Bazaar chair Barbi Benjamin Levitt said that the sale's era is coming to a close simply because the organization wants to focus on new and different fundraising plans, which are currently in the works.

"Society's changing, and we were one of the first ones to bring out the outlet-mall type sale," Benjamin Levitt told CTV.ca on Wednesday.

"We hope that everyone who has come out in the past will come out again."

The last bazaar will also be one of the most fun, Benjamin Levitt said.

A display will showcase the bazaar's history, past bazaar chairs will take part in a cake-cutting ceremony and a clown will be painting kids' faces.

Fashionistas mark the annual sale on their calendars months before its fall date. As many as 10,000 shoppers each year hunt for bargains among stacks of clothing, china and flatware, and books.

The farewell bazaar will take place on Oct. 29 at the Direct Energy Centre at Exhibition Place between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. The entry fee is $5.
