Toronto police are searching for a 25-year-old man after his mother was found dead in their east-end apartment.

The body of Linda Scott, 65, was found Tuesday afternoon in an apartment on Cedarvale Avenue, in the area of Danforth and Woodbine Avenues, shortly after noon.

Officers said Scott had been stabbed several times in the home she shared with her son.

"Judging from the evidence left at the scene, it was a violent attack," Toronto Police Det.-Sgt. Steve Ryan told reporters Tuesday evening.

"As to what led up to that, we're not sure as of yet."

Investigators said they hadn't determined the exact time of Scott's death, but that it had occurred sometime over the last two days.

On Tuesday evening, police announced they were searching for a suspect in connection to the death. An arrest warrant has been issued for the woman's son, 25-year-old Justin Scott.

He has been described as white, approximately 5-foot-10, and 170 pounds with a muscular build, red hair and a scar on his neck. He was last seen in the area of Yonge and Dundas Streets on Monday.

Officers said they had information that he may have fled to Quebec. They also said he may have shaved his head, and his hands may be injured.

He is considered dangerous, and anyone with more information is asked to contact police immediately at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).

"I would encourage Justin to certainly contact a lawyer, or contact me directly, and to surrender himself," Ryan said.
