Police are investigating after complaints about sickness from two people who ate from a Druxy’s sandwich shop earlier this month, according to Toronto Public Health.

“(We) are awaiting the result of a food sample that was submitted for laboratory analysis during a suspected foodborne illness complaint involving Druxy's,” said Lenore Bromley of Toronto Public Health.

“TPH has not confirmed any links between the illness of the two persons and consumption of chili ‎from Druxy's,” she added. “There is nothing at this stage to suggest that chili is unsafe.”

Druxy’s confirmed that they stopped selling chili at the Consumers Road location, in the Sheppard Ave. E. and Victoria Park Rd. area, as soon as they learned of the complaints.

“From our understanding, this is not an illness, but a situation of the people who were ill coming into contact with an anti-depressant drug,” said Peter Druxerman, vice-president of Druxy’s Inc.

“We believe that this is an issue that is unrelated to Druxy’s.”

According to Druxerman, “two customers working in the same office” reported illness and, “despite selling chili to many customers that day, there have been no other reports of health issues.”

However, Druxerman said the company “is very concerned by this situation.”

“We are waiting for further information from Public Health and the police and will continue to work with them to get to the bottom of this.”
