Police have released the identities of four people, including a six-year-old girl, who were involved in a Brampton collision that left one woman dead on Monday morning.

A 77-year-old woman, Nirmala Bhandari, was driving a black Hyundai Sonata around the Highway 50 and Cottrelle Boulevard area at 7 a.m., according to investigators.

The Sonata was travelling north on the highway and was turning west onto Cottrelle Boulevard. It collided with a transport truck that was going south, police said. The Sonata then struck a black Acura that was stopped at the intersection.

Two other women and a child who were in the car with Bhandari suffered serious injuries. Neha Bhandari, 29, Veena Bhandari, 52, and six-year-old Diya Bhandari were taken to hospital and remain in serious but stable condition.

Two male passengers were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

On Monday, Peel Regional Police Const. Bally Saini told CP24 she was not sure if weather or speed played a part in the crash.

"We did have light snow," Saini said. "We do urge people to slow down, be precautious and take that extra time."

Investigators with the major collision bureau are asking witnesses who may have seen the crash or who may have video of it to come forward. They can contact officers at 905-453-2121.
