Police are investigating after a man in his mid-20s was shot in the chest and killed inside a crowded Brampton banquet hall early Sunday morning.

Police say a function was underway at the Bovaird Banquet Hall and Convention Centre, located near Bovaird Drive near Hurontario Street, when shots rang out at around 4:15 a.m.

Investigators identified the victim as 25-year-old Ricky Ricardo Dunkley of Hamilton. Police said he died on scene.

A witness told CP24 that the victim was sitting in a chair when a short and stocky man wearing a hoodie fired two very close range shots at him.

“At this point we are unsure of how many people were in attendance,” Peel Police Const. Thomas Ruttan told CP24 on Sunday.

After shots were fired, the banquet hall cleared out.

Police found evidence of a blood trail, leading them to believe there may be a second victim.

Anyone with information is asked to come forward to police.

“We’re obviously looking for anyone who may have seen something,” Ruttan said.

No arrests have been made and a suspect description has not been made available.
