A man and a woman are facing charges after they allegedly used fake prescriptions to obtain fentanyl patches from a Pickering pharmacy.

According to police, a man walked into a pharmacy on Jan. 14 where he filled a fraudulent prescription for 30 fentanyl patches and purchased 10 of them for $156.

When the man returned to the pharmacy to purchase the remaining patches a few days later, staff alerted police and he was arrested.

While police were investigating the incident involving the male suspect, pharmacy staff told them that another fake prescription for fentanyl had been filled earlier this month.

Staff members told police that a woman filled a prescription for five fentanyl patches on Jan. 7 and returned to the pharmacy for 10 more patches – at a cost of $202 – a few days later.

Police later identified the woman, located her at her home and placed her under arrest.

Joseph Dixon, 48, and Jeanene Chiasson, 50, both of Pickering, have been charged with fraud under $5,000 and uttering a forged document.

They were released on a condition that they promise to appear in court on the charges at a later date.

Anyone with new information about the incident is being asked to call Durham Regional Police at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 2525 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
