OSHAWA, Ont. -- An angry altercation at an Oshawa city council meeting on Tuesday night ended with several people under arrest.

The incident took place as council wrapped up an investigation into allegations of misconduct by the city's auditor general against the city manager.

The seven-hour council meeting was disrupted by several protesters who accused council members of corruption.

Mayor John Henry asked security guards to remove them, and when some of the protesters began scuffling with the guards, some plainclothes police officers who were at the meeting jumped in and arrested them.

Council then voted 8-3 to accept the findings of a separate investigator who found nothing wrong with the deal that resulted in a $1.2-million overpayment for a property.

It also adopted his seven recommendations, one of which was to eliminate the auditor general position.
