A person in crisis has been removed from a TTC bus in North York on Saturday after a standoff lasting about six hours.

The incident occurred around noon in the Steeles Avenue and Tangreen Court area, in the Newtonbrook neighbourhood.

The bus was disabled, according to Toronto police Const. Craig Brister.

Initially, there was a report that the bus had been hijacked, but Brister said this was not the case.

Emergency Task Force officers boarded the bus and were able to apprehend the person in crisis shortly after 6 p.m.

Steeles Avenue between Yonge Street and Hilda Avenue was closed while officers investigated, police said on Twitter.

The male was taken to a local hospital for assistance.
