BURLINGTON, Ont. -- A man has been arrested after police say a woman's body was found inside an apartment west of Toronto.

Halton regional police say they responded to a call about a verbal altercation around 10 a.m. Monday in Burlington.

They say when officers arrived an individual barricaded inside the home told them he had a firearm.

Negotiations followed, and three hours later a police tactical squad forced their way in and found the dead woman, who has not yet been identified.

Forty-one-year-old Malcolm Copeland of Markham was arrested at the scene.

Sgt. Chantal Corner says the homicide squad is investigating and that charges are in the process of being determined.
