A suspect wanted in a fatal hit-and-run in Scarborough last Thursday has surrendered to police, investigators confirm.

Police say a 56-year-old woman was trying to cross Markham Road near Nashdene Road at around 10 p.m. on March 31 when she was struck by a Mercedes.

According to police, the driver of the car stopped his vehicle, exited the Mercedes and a short time later, got back in the car and fled.

The female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Saeed Moravvej Torbati of Ottawa, surrendered to police after investigators released a photograph of the man and a picture of a vehicle similar to the one the suspect would have been driving at the time of the collision.

Torbati is scheduled to make a court appearance on Monday.
