Toronto police have released photos of a suspect and vehicle model being sought in connection with the death of a pedestrian in Scarborough last week.

According to police, a 56-year-old woman was attempting to cross Markham Road at Nashdene Road, near Finch Avenue, at around 10 p.m. Thursday when she was struck by a Mercedes.

Police say the male driver of the Mercedes stopped the vehicle, exited the car and a short time later, returned to the vehicle and fled the area.

The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Sunday investigators released a photograph of the Mercedes model believed to be involved in the crash.

The vehicle, police say, has the licence plate number BYVK 272.

Police have also identified the suspect as 25-year-old Saeed Moravvej Torbati of Ottawa and have released a photo of him. Police said they believe Torbati lives in Ottawa but frequently comes to Toronto for business.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the vehicle is asked to contact police at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
