A man has been charged with second-degree murder after police discovered the body of a 25-year-old woman inside a residence in Whitby, Durham Regional Police say.

According to police, on Saturday at around 10 a.m., a 29-year-old man walked into a police station in Oshawa and told the attendant at the front desk that something happened to his girlfriend.

When officers arrived at a home on Eric Clarke Drive in Whitby, they found a woman’s body with what investigators allege was obvious signs of trauma.

Police said the man who reported the incident about his girlfriend was then taken into custody.

On Sunday, 29-year-old Whitby resident Matthew Coussons was charged with second-degree murder.

Police said the name of the victim will not yet be released.
