A 23-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after the body of his grandmother was found an apartment north of Toronto.

Police were called when an injured man walked into a Richmond Hill, Ont., hospital shortly after 5 a.m. on Saturday.

Police have not provided details, but information led them to an apartment located at 45 Baif Blvd., in the Yonge Street and Carrville Road area.

Officers entered an apartment and found the body of an elderly woman. Police are not releasing her cause of death. The woman was later identified as 71-year-old Herma Parkes.

On Monday, York Regional Police said Cameron Alexander Mossaddad, of Waterloo, Ont., was charged with second-degree murder. Police said he is the deceased woman's grandson.
