A 46-year-old Newcastle man has been charged with arson in connection with a fire that caused an estimated $400,000 in damage to his own home.

The fire occurred at the home on Stephenson Road in Newcastle at about 8 p.m. on April 21,

At the time, it was determined that the fire was suspicious in nature and investigation was conducted by the Office of the Ontario fire Marshal.

The suspect then turned himself into police on Wednesday.

Ross Hickey is charged with arson causing damage to own proposer and arson endangering life.

Hickey has been released from custody on an undertaking.
