A 25-year-old man appeared in court today to face animal cruelty charges after a two-year-old Beagle was allegedly thrown off of a seventh-floor balcony in Scarborough.

Several residents called police Monday after they found a severely injured dog on the ground outside the building on Firvalley Court, in the area of Warden and St. Clair avenues..

“It was just like lying there and wasn't moving and everything,” one person told CTV Toronto.

After speaking to locals, police discovered the dog belonged to a resident who lived on the building’s seventh floor.

Det. Matthew Wighton told reporters at this point in time, police are not sure why the man allegedly threw the dog from the balcony.

Suspect Adam Foster will remain in custody until his next court appearance, which is expected to be on Wednesday.
