Police are investigating a suspicious death in Mississauga after a 74-year-old man was found with a knife in his chest.

The man, who has not been identified, was found in a home located in the area of Dundas Street and Dixie Road on Wednesday.

"We attended the scene and located a male with a knife in his chest," Const. Thomas Ruttan told CTV Toronto. "This male did die at the scene and we are doing an investigation to determine what the circumstances are in relation to this."

First responders were initially called to the area just before noon. Police haven't revealed who placed that call, or if anyone else was inside the home at the time.

According to neighbours, the man lived with his wife, and his son visited often.

Police haven't said if they are looking for a suspect.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.
