Police say a 26-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit and run in Brampton on Saturday night.

The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. in the area of Bonnie Braes Drive and Kimborough Hollow.

Police say an 18-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle. She was later pronounced dead in hospital.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene

Steven Richards, 26, was taken into custody at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday. He has been charged with failure to remain at the scene of an accident causing death.

Peel police say they are still investigating the hit and run and looking at footage from nearby surveillance cameras.

Richards is set to appear in court Sunday afternoon.
