Police were able to return a unique ring to its owner after posting a photo on Facebook and asking Hamilton, Ont. residents to share the photo.

A woman named Jacqueline lost her ring when she dropped her purse in a parking lot in downtown Hamilton in February. She picked up her purse and left the parking lot, but didn't realize the ring had fallen out.

The ring is gold, with the names and birthstones of her children engraved on the bands. "We love mom" is written on the side of the band.

A week after it was lost, Hamilton Police Const. Kevin Beda seized the ring from a man in the area of King Street West and Caroline Street South.

Police have not said why Beda took the ring, but said that the man was not charged or arrested.

The ring was posted on the Hamilton Police Service Facebook and Twitter accounts on March 10, along with a message to contact police with information about the owner.

On Thursday, Hamilton police wrote on Facebook that Jacqueline's daughter had seen the post and contacted police, who returned the ring to its owner.
