WIMBLEDON, England - Canadian Milos Raonic was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon on Wednesday after falling awkwardly during his second-round match.

The 20-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., was leading Luxembourg's Gilles Muller 2-1 in the first set when he went down.

Raonic was moving to his left at the baseline, then lost his footing and tumbled, his legs going in different directions, as he tried to move back to his right.

He grimaced and spent some time sitting where he fell while officials and his opponent looked on.

A trainer worked on his leg and Raonic eventually limped to the sidelines where he received more treatment and had his right high wrapped.

He returned to action, moving gingerly but won his service game.

Raonic, the 31st seed, saw the trainer during the next break and called it quits while leading the set 3-2.

A win by Raonic would have seen him face defending champion Rafael Nadal in the third round.
